What is Ashiatsu?

Literally translated from Japanese to ‘foot’ [ashi] and ‘pressure’ [atsu'], Ashiatsu is a barefoot massage that utilises western massage techniques to improve postural alignment, range of motion, muscle responsiveness and overall health and well-being. Ashiatsu is comprised of unique and proprietary techniques and sequences that can be customized to suit the individual.

Ashiatsu provides deep tissue therapy, without the discomfort that can sometimes come from elbows and thumbs. Utilizing both gravity and bodyweight, Ashiatsu gives up to three times more pressure than traditional hands-on therapy.


Deep Tissue Without Discomfort

Deep tissue work can often come with some discomfort for those who don’t enjoy pointy elbows and thumbs. If that is the case, then deep tissue Ashiatsu Therapy is often a great alternative. By utilising gravity, Ashiatsu therapy delivers up to three times deeper pressure than traditional hands-on treatments. The therapist’s bodyweight and foot as a massage tool provides a broad, consistent pressue that creates structural change throughout the body. As a result, clients will enjoy the same extra range of motion and decrease chronic tension relief without having to endure painful strokes.

Elongates Muscles and Detoxifies

Many Ashiatsu strokes have been developed to elongate the spine. The movements are intended to dramatically stretch shortened muscles, which can help in relieving pain and discomfort. The long, fluid strokes also help flush the body’s lymphatic system, which releases metabolic waste at a very high rate. We highly recommend drinking plenty of water before and after a treatment to help with the detoxification process.
